About:

Gilbert became a 'black belt' in Taekwondo in 1992.  After competing at the highest level for several years, he then wanted to put something back into the sport and decided to pass on his wealth of experience to the next generation.

Through running his own Taekwondo class, he was offered the chance to work as a teaching assistant within a Lewisham primary school. He soon became aware, that unfortuanately, the level of PE provision was very poor within most schools in his working area. Gilbert then took it upon himself to deliver most of the PE lessons within his own school, significantly improving the pupils involvement and abilities. Following this success and on the advice of his head teacher, he went back to university to obtain his coaching degree.

In 2007, Gilbert started work at Teachsport, delivering sport and PE within schools in term-time and in various parks during the holiday periods. Since then, Gilbert has quickly moved into a management role which involves helping young coaches with their CPD and helping them to deliver an 'outstanding' level of PE provision. Gilbert continues to be one of Teachsports leading coach development managers.

With Teachsport now in a position to franchise, it was the perfect opportunity for Gilbert to spread the good practice, ethos and strong brand that Teachsport are so proud of and one of which Gilbert has been an integral part of.

Gilbert will have ownership of the Chadwell Heath area where he has a lot of local knowledge, which is why we believe he will have a huge impact on the PE provision within primary schools in his area. Going forward, Gilbert plans to train his senior Taekwondo students into competent all-round sports coaches, to work within his area. This is a great outlet for young people wanting a career in the sports and education sector.
